Iolite is believed to be a powerful vision stone that brings clarity and insight to dreams and visions and supports self understanding and intuition. Iolite is named after the Greek word "ios," meaning violet. The rich purple/blue shades of iolite earned this gemstone the nickname of water sapphire. It is also known as the Vikings Compass as it was believed to be used in thin shards as a lens to find the exact position of the Sun and navigate safely by Viking explorers.
